American Gothic portrays an ominous representation of a gay couple in the 1940s. I was inspired by the stoicism in Grant Wood’s American Gothic portrait- with an intention to make the viewer uncomfortable while questioning my true intentions behind taking the images. During this time period it was much frowned upon to be in a relationship with the same sex. I wanted to capture the disdain the women have for each other in solitude and how their relationship is slowly deteriorating one photo at a time.
